One Last Hurrah

At last we're finished. We've tied up all of the loose ends. Our main menu has all the written content saying who was on the team, giving special thanks to any places we received code help, and instructions on how to play the game. Our code is all commented. We have text displaying time and score. Prompts for end game conditions and how to restart the game. All of our ducks are lined up in a row.

Unfortunately, it wouldn't be a real project if everything didn't break down at the last minute. Our AI doesn't move around very well. Our coins still refuse to spawn even when we force the spawn at specific coordinates in the game world (usually the very center). Also, suddenly while trying to figure out the AI movement issue some components that have been working since the very beginning, including our wall collisions with our main player, suddenly stopped working. It was very stressful seeing everything fall apart piece by piece, but we found out that most of our components worked in previous separate commits; they just don't seem to work very well when we put them altogether. Unfortunately, this close to the finish we are unable to figure out what caused these sudden problems and break downs in function.

Regardless, we have put in so much work and heart and effort. I am very proud of my team and I think we did a great job despite the challenges. In hindsight, I think we could have made a more successful and stable game had our map been static and had we not lost a team member halfway through. But I'm glad we chose the more challenging path. It says something about our team and it will give us the courage to try more challenging tasks when coding in the future. Also, in choosing the more difficult approach we learned so much more depth about the program, code, and components we were working with.

For our team this will be our last project at Augustana, our last presentation, our last assignment in college. I will miss my time here and I will miss working with my team. I wish the best of luck to my team and their futures.

Keep Dreaming Big,
Avery
